Cultural Intelligence in Sport – Insights from Research and Practice

Next Wednesday, 6th August at 11:00 CET Deniz URGUN will be presenting our next FEPSAC webinar.

This webinar explores cultural and intercultural approaches in sport psychology, focusing on the concept of Cultural Intelligence (CQ) and its application in sports. The session addresses the cultural challenges that sports coaches face in diverse environments and presents a cross-cultural training programme designed to enhance their cross-cultural leadership skills. The training programme was developed through three phases: (a) interviews with coaches, coach educators, and sport psychologists to explore the cross-cultural challenges coaches face and the strategies they use to manage them; (b) a Delphi study involving iterative surveys with a panel of experts, including coach educators, sport psychologists, and cultural intelligence facilitators, to identify key content and components of the training programme; and (c) implementation and evaluation of the programme to assess its effectiveness in enhancing cultural intelligence and overall impact. This research supports the development of cultural intelligence among sports coaches to help create inclusive, supportive, and effective sporting environments
