52nd Annual Conference of the German Society for Sport Psychology (asp) – Virtual online conference report

The 52nd Annual Conference of the German Society for Sport Psychology (asp) organized to take place in Salzburg, Austria from May 21st to 23rd 2020. However, due to the challenging times of global health crisis and home confinement, the conference organizers decided to move the conference to a virtual set up in less than 10 weeks. Thus, transferring a physical conference to a virtual platform comes with different challenges, such as arranging new registration systems and restructuring programs, familiarizing with video conferencing tools and ensuring the willingness of the invited speakers.

The first asp virtual conference initially received 218 contributions to the program and only 48 withdrawn. Also, the participants’ response was overwhelming (reports the organizing committee), due to a total of 314 participants’ registered for the virtual conference.

We would like to highlight this example as a success story of virtual conferences and congratulate the organizing committee lead by Sabine Würth, Thomas Finkenzeller, Günter Amesberger and their core five people team. You can read more about this success story here.
